Gold Cup Finals NC - St.Cloud, MN
Minnesota BMX has been a powerhouse on the racing scene for years. From amateur prowess to Olympic dreams, one track has continued to be a staple, Pineview Park BMX. The home of the 2021 North Central DK Bicycles Gold Cup Finals brought seamless turn-key racing and non-stop action that we have all come to love from Pineview Park BMX.
The weekend kicked off with a good look into what the weekend would hold via the Friday night pre-race. Filled with local riders and racers looking for the extra track time showed the racers eager to grab gold in the north central district. Some instant head turns on friday came from 12 Girl, Kenadie Neelan, and 13 Expert, Cooper Deisel, both of these racer took charge in two of the hardest classes at an race in the country and their extra track time may have contributed to their success throughout the weekend!
It wasnt just the young guns battling it out through the weekend, some of the heated racing on saturday and sunday came from the 41-45, 46-50, and 51 & over experts. With a Pineview Park right handed first turn, these classes were making the most of it, putting their elbows out and making moves that set them up for the rest of the track. On Saturday the 41-45 Expert class saw a continuous battle between Minnesota’s own, Dan Maier and Nebraska’s, Alex Snell, while Maier got the win in the main, Snell definitely made him work for it with an inside move in the first turn and a hard fought battle down the second straight. While Maier was dominant to the finish line both days, it would ultimately be Snell who climbed the podium for this years 41-45 Expert Gold Cup #1.
Also getting in on the DK Bicycles Gold Cup action was the #GirlsClub. With Pineview Park BMX being the house that built BMX legend, Alise Willoughby, the racing in the girls classes are nothing but extraordinary when visiting Minnesota! While Kenadie Neelan was taking charge of the 12 year olds, 9 year old Jemma “Lil’ JT” Tolfefson was looking as dominant as ever fending off Isanti’s, Adalynn McCauley who has taken big strides to be a serious competitor in the class. Ultimately, it was Lil JT on the top of the box with McCauley and Terrah Biel joining her on an all Minnesota Gold Cup podium.
The weekend at Pineview Park BMX was exactly what we expected - an amazing facility via Mark Post and his volunteers, a fun family atmosphere, with intense Gold Cup fueled racing action! As the podium ceremony commenced, the staff here at USA BMX is always blown away by the excitement and pride shown by parents and friend, as each racer takes their plates and steps on to three stairs that make them Gold Cup Champions!
Up next time ...North Central Finals!
