No matter what BMX discipline you ride - whether you are racing or freestylin’, Vans shoes have been a rider’s first choice in footwear. For 2019, the Hall of Fame Industry inductee is Vans’ original main-man of marketing, who helped make it that way: Everett "The Vans Man" Rosecrans!
Hired by Vans in 1978 as their Skateboard team manager - Ev is credited as the one who gave skaters such as Tony Hawk, Steve Caballero and Mark Gonzales their first pair of free Vans hightops. It wasn’t long before Ev was doing the same on the BMX scene, helping make these American-made waffle-sole shoes the first and only choice for BMXers.
Ev didn’t just talk the talk - he walked the walk. Well .. actually, he surfed, skated and raced BMX. And for an old fart, he went plenty fast on a BMX bike - earning the 1993 & 1995 National Age Group No.1 plates in 45 & Over Cruiser.
His skill for spotting talent and picking up the perfect riders to represent Vans, was uncanny. Choosing BMX pros such as Steve Veltman, Pete Loncarevich and Terry Tennette for Vans’ dominant race team, and having Hall of Famers like Fiola, Itson, Dominguez, Blyther, and Aparijo on the freestyle side, helped firmly position Vans at the top of all shoe boxes.
Everett’s list of contributions are many - from spending time at Camp Woodward to providing technical input and support on the movie RAD, along with working for Vision Sports as Events Coordinator, to providing direction and input as a board member of the NBL and USA Cycling, Rosecrans has played a big role in guiding the sport of BMX toward its new position as a dual discipline Olympic sport.
We welcome the newest Industry icon and longtime BMX enthusiast, Everett Rosecrans, as this year’s Industry Inductee.
