Holder of three ABA No.1 titles and NORBA & UCI mountain bike championships.  As a young racer, rode under the coattails of his famous BMX brother, Eddy (a 1989 Hall of Fame inductee) until 1984, when he earned ABA’s No.1 Amateur title while riding for Huffy. After becoming No. 1 Amateur again in ’87 (winning the biggest Amateur prize ABA has ever handed out--a ski boat). Mikey became only the second rider in BMX history to hold two No.1 Amateur titles. Turned pro the following year--1988, and went on to become the third rider in BMX history to earn a No.1 Pro title in his Rookie year. Yet, at the same time, was the first rider in ABA history to go from No. 1 Am to No. 1 Pro back-to-back (a record unmatched until 1996). Had an illustrious pro career in BMX from ’88 to ’93, earning a top-4 number every year except in ’91. While sponsored by Balance during the ’94 season, tried out mountain bike racing and found immediate success--going on to win a NORBA Championship and World Cup title. Mike still lives in San Diego and is currently the BMX Coordinator for USA Cycling.
