Getting Started
Interested in trying BMX racing? You can give it a try for free and do not need fancy bikes or gear to get started. Here is what you need to give BMX a try:
- Visit High Springs BMX and stop by the registration window during any practice times to get started (we have practice only nights and always practice before our races). See the schedule page for our current calendar. Be sure to check our the track's Facebook page: www.facebook.com/HighSpringsBMX or email [email protected] for any last minute changes (usually weather related, rain is not the best thing for a BMX track).
- You need long pants and a long sleeve shirt. We highly recommend jeans as they are the most durable and protective if you are not in the full race gear. We also have some loaner race pants to wear, but sizes we currently have a for kids 12 and up though adult.
- If you have a BMX or mountain bike style bike, bring it too. If its a toddler we allow the Strider/balance bikes as well. If it has reflectors, bells, or a front brake we recommend you remove those. Not handy? no problem, we usually have a parent that can help. If the bike came with a tool and you still have it, bring it. That will speed up the process! We also have a few loaner bikes that might work if you don't have your own bike yet. Please contact us before coming out if you need a bike so we can let you know if you have one around your size.
- That's it! You will be required to wear a helmet, but we have full face ones you can borrow until you know BMX is right for you.
We will get you linked up with another parent and/or adult rider and help you get on the track and get riding. We will show you the best places to try first so you can have a lot of fun and stay safe too. Usually we can help adjust the bike to make the rider more comfortable and give other tips.
After your one day free membership, you will need an annual membership to USABMX. You get a BMX magazine and other goodies. Be sure to ask at registration about how to get your first 3 races for free before you leave!
See you at the track!
