I'm now checking USABMX and SSA (Florida) sites on a daily basis.  I'm checking other riders.  I'm doing point calculations & computations.  I've gotten the calendar out and checked it (repeatedly!) to make sure of where James stands in relation to races won versus the state championship date.  I'm planning out which races we can attend and which ones we need to skip.  I'm trying to ascertain other children's point totals and win totals going forward.  I'm wondering if I should fit in one practice or a race at St Cloud to give James a familiarity with the track?  In other words...I'm obsessed!  What the heck?

What's all this energy for?  Basically the way I'm seeing it is this: James can race once per week for the 6 weeks up to the state championship race.  He can do both days at the Tampa qualifier.  If he wins all that, he's at 18 wins going into the state championships.  If he wins one (or both) days at Tampa, he'll be ahead in the calculated points.  It's all sort of pointing to one thing --> win the state championship race and he'll win the points championship for 6 intermediate as well.  There's one boy almost even with him in points who seems to do better on short tracks.  He beat James at Naples (I'm not telling James!) but he's been beaten numerous times on long tracks by kids James beats all the time.  St Cloud looks like a big enough track that I'd say James should beat him there...and I'm sure he'll be there.  There's even another boy that's slightly ahead of James in total points, but I think he may turn Expert before then.  Besides, James has never lost to him.  How can I not be worried about someone who's AHEAD of James in total points?  Crazy.

State is best 5 qualifiers PLUS best 10 single points races PLUS results of the final race.  Best 5 qualifiers?  He's won 5 qualifiers.  3 as novice and 2 as intermediate.  If he wins in Tampa, that's more as intermediate.  Best 10 single points?  He's won 8 of those as an intermediate and 2 as a novice.  (Soon to be all 10 as intermediate.)  State race?  That's the capper.  The way I see it, win the state race and win it all.  Period.

I'm really excited for all this.  It's really building up to something.  Fun, fun, fun!  We really want that #1 plate.  James wants it & I want it for him.  : )
