BMX bikes are built to be lightweight but durable, so you can be the star of the sport. These bikes come in all sizes from Balance Bikes with no pedals to the bigger-wheeled "Cruisers", but they are all designed for maximum speed on the racetrack. Most riders will try the sport on an entry-level bike, but will then begin to upgrade the bike and/or components later on.
Bike Components
It might not look very different from your everyday riding bike, but a BMX bike is made with some special features to help you on your way to a podium finish!
Handlebars
The exact size may vary by rider preference, but these handlebars are designed for maximum stability and durability.
Saddle
Designed to be lightweight and low to the frame of the bike, the only time riders need the saddle is waiting at the starting gates.
Front Fork
BMX bikes need to be able to take an impact. A strong front fork helps absorb the shock of a short landing.
Wheels
BMX tires and wheels are designed for speed and stability when landing jumps.
Rear Brake
Riders won’t be using their brakes much when racing, but it is required to have working brakes and these do just the trick when you need to stop.
Platform Pedals
Riders should always start on platform pedals to get the basics down. More experienced riders (aged 13 or above) may transition to clipless pedals as they advance.
