If you have been watching our post on the track Facebook page, you would have noticed that the volunteers and I have chose to re-schedule this Sundays Winter race ( 1-14-18).  There hasn't been a decision yet as to what date, but, it's likely we will move it out into the month of February.  Maybe by then the sub-zero temps will have run their course and allow for us to race without getting frost bite on our toes.  Not sure if anyone else has raced outdoors during the winter.  To my knowledge, Michigan has not had an outdoor race during the winter for well over 15 years.  So, maybe it's time to give it a go and see how the snowflakes fall.

As for reasons beyond the frigid temps, we need to have a working gate.  And, although ours works, the gate itself is frozen solid to the ground.  Using a big pry bar to force it up could warp or bend it.   So, that idea was tossed in the snow.  Second, this past week we had unusually warm weather which caused a melt off of the snow.  The track was covered with at least 6 to 8 inches of snow.  The melt off cause the flats to become saturated and to soft to even walk on.  Then the temps dropped in less that 24 hours to sub-zero which left areas of the flats with ice slicks.  Mother Nature had done her job undermining our desire to race.

Best thing we could do is cancel and reschedule for another day.  A disappointed racer is better than an injured frost bitten racer.  So keep an eye on our Facebook page for another update.  Or come back here to see what's going on at Richfield Park BMX.  Until then, keep the rubber side down, eyes forward, and attitude positive.
